Visiting Japanese Filming Locations of “From 5 to 9”

"From 5 to 9" is a Japanese love story drama of the heroin Junko Sakuraba and the monk Takane Hoshikawa. I want to introduce 5 locations for this drama.

“From 5 to 9” is a Japanese drama based on the same title’s manga. The heroin Junko Sakuraba is a woman who is currently working as a teacher at English conversation school, dreaming of working in New York some day. One day she meets the monk who is destined to be a chief priest of his family’s temple. This is their love story. I want to introduce 5 locations for this drama.

 

#1. Japanese Nursing Association – Tokyo

The Japanese nursing association was used as the location of the ELA English Language Academy in Omotesando where Junko works. The upper floors are for the offices and the lower floors are a commercial facility. You can enjoy shopping at fashionable shops.

The upstairs became very popular since it often appeared in many scenes of the drama. There are many people who takes pictures in this place nowadays.

#2. Noninji Temple – Saitama

Noninji Temple is located in Hanno, Saitama about one hour away from Tokyo. It was used as a temple of the monk Takane Hoshikawa. It is a large temple and the gardens are famous for its beauty. Especially on weekends, there are many amateur photographers to take of nice scenery there. They often held events like lives and have zazen meetings every Sunday. So it will be a good chance to know the world of Buddhism.

Kumano mae shopping street was used as a location close to a housing development where Junko and her family live. The shopping street has 480m long and there are a wide variety of shops and restaurants. You can enjoy taking a walk and shopping there. It is located just in front of the station and very convenient for the transportation. Also the shopping street has a good atmosphere and not only from 5 to 9, but also many other dramas use for their locations. It is a very good place.

#4. Takahama Kita Danchi – Chiba

Takahama Kita Danchi is located in Chiba-city about one hour away from Tokyo and was used as a housing development where Junko and her family live. The appearance is not so special and it is like a place you can find anywhere. But this simplicity is attractive and  many dramas and movies used this place for their locations.

They have some parks and the atmosphere is very peaceful. It is very good to take a walk around, remembering the scenes of the drama.

Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku is a fashion theme park and very popular especially among young women. In the drama, it often appeared as a place where Junko have a lunch. Omotesando is a very popular area and always crowded but Tokyu plaza has a roof garden and it is an oasis in the city. Junko also likes to have a lunch in its roof garden. You can feel nature and take a relaxing break during shopping.
