#1. Hakodate Park

Hakodate Park is the first park opened in Hokkaido which is located in the foot of Mt. Hakodate.

Many people in and out of Hakodate City come to the park as there are a square with a big fountain, a simple amusement park for small children, a small zoo, and so on.

Especially in spring when about 420 cherry blossoms bloom, more people come to the park to view the beautiful scenery and browse night stalls opening about 2 weeks during the cherry blossoms bloom.

#2. Goryokaku Park

Goryokaku Park located in the center of Hakodate is the fort used in the last domestic war in Japan.

About 1,600 cherry blossom trees are encircled the outworks of the fort.

The star-shaped fort is colored by light pink during the season of cherry blossoms and you can see the whole pink star on earth from adjacent tower. In the end of season, the moat is covered by light pink cherry blossom petals floating on the surface. There are some nice restaurants and cafe around Goryokaku Park. One of the most recommended place is Rokkatei Sweets Shop & Cafe because you can have a cup of coffee and sweets with viewing fluttering petals of cherry blossoms from the cafe.

#3. Matsumae Castle Park

Matsumae Castle Park is extremely spacious and about 10,000 cherry blossom trees are planted. They bloom long time for about a month by turns as they have 250 kinds of cherry blossoms bloom with timing deviation.

Matsumae Cherry Blossom Festival is held from the end of April to the end of May.  You can taste seafood such as urchin, abalone and other specialty product of the area and enjoy shows. After having a good time at the festival, you should try the area’s gourmet, “Matsumae hama champon” if you come to the place. Matsumae hama champon is ramen noodles with full of seafood and popular among tourists coming to see cherry blossom viewing.
