If you have had any exposure to popular culture in the last 20 years then you will most likely be familiar with the theme of this summer event, Pokemon. To be specific Pokemon’s most famous mascot, Pikachu is stealing the spotlight at this event!
Rising in popularity over the past few years the number one Pokemon event in Japan is back! This year it’s all about Pikachu! The event will be running from August 7th till the 14th and will be bring crowds from all over Japan. The event will take place at Minato Mirai in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. There will be many Pikachu at this event dressed in cute outfits. There will be parades and all manner of events! Don’t worry about the summer heat because this year they are bringing a water show that will surely cool you off! So let’s enjoy an unforgettable summer break with Pikachu at Minato Mirai in Yokohama!

This is a rare opportunity to meet this many Pikachu in person! The event started in 2014 as a way of promoting one of the Pokemon movies. The growth in popularity made this event an annual occurrence. This year brings the event up to a whole new level. If you think one Pikachu is cute, what will you do with over a 1,000 Pikachu dressed in different outfits and costumes?
The previous year the event was centered around “dance”. This year they are going with “water” as their theme. There will be a soaked splash show featuring water cannons and other surprises. This isn’t to undermine any of the other events which will be just as fun! They will be dancing and will truly put you in the festival season. There will also be a number of limited edition goods that you can only get there. This event isn’t just for children, but anyone who has ever played a Pokemon game can relate.
There are a number of cultural events and festivals in Japan during summer, but none can compare to this one. First as a game, then as an anime, this media franchise is well known even outside of Japan. This event is a rare opportunity to experience something outside of the typical archetype of a Japanese festival. The scale of this event is massive with over 1,000 Pikachu present, it may just set a new records. Remember that no matter how cute these Pikachu are you can’t catch them!

Access: The most central station is Minato Mirai Station located on the Minato Mirai Line, and is located in the basement of Queen’s Square. It is only two stations away from Yokohama Station. It takes about 3 min from Yokohama station and costs about 180 JPY.
