Top 11 Things To Do in Hokkaido

Hokkaido is known as a winter wonderland. Sapporo is the largest city in Hokkaido and there is many things to do. Enjoy the outdoor activites or relax at an onsen resort.

Odori Park is a large park with a total area of 7.8 hectares located in the center of Sapporo City. It is a relaxing space for local residents and tourists, there is about 4,700 trees and there is 92 different kinds of trees, there is also many flowers and fountains in the park.

Some festivals including the Lilac Festival, the Yosakoi Soran Festival, and the Snow Festival are held. Moreover, you can’t miss the grilled corn which is sold at the food stalls in the park.

Shikisai no Oka is a place where you can feel all the different season in Hokkaido. In the huge area of 15 hectares, there are various kinds of flowers blooming from spring to autumn. The orchard is a beautiful green in the summer and autumn, winter is superb because the land is covered by snow and everything is pure white. There are some activities including riding on a go-kart in summer and playing in the snow during the winter.

Hoshino Resorts Tomamu is a well-known place for winter activities and the special views of the surrounding landscape. Tomamu is surrounded by Mount Tomamu and Hidaka Mountains, so “Unkai” or the cloud sea, frequently emerges more compared to other places.

Hoshino Resorts Tomamu established the “Unkai Terrace” at an altitude of about 1,008 meters to see the cloud sea. After a 13 minute ride on the gondola, you can view have a dynamic and beautiful view of the cloud sea from the observatory area or the cafeteria.

“Aoi Ike” means blue pond in Japanese. The color of water is cobalt blue, but depending on the angle and the season the color of the water can change. The pond is surrounded by trees and it’s always quiet. It is recommended to stay at Shirogane Onsen near the pond.

Noboribetsu Date Jidai Mura in Noboribetsu is famous for the onsen resorts in the area. It is a theme park focused on the Edo period in Japan, you can watch an exciting ninja show and a beautiful oiran dance. There are other things to experience such as trying to throw shuriken like a ninja and dress up like a samurai, a ninja, or a maiko. Taking pictures while dressed up costs a little bit of money.
