#1. Tokyo Dome City Winter Illumination 2016-17

The illumination at the Tokyo Dome this year will last almost four months, so there is no rush. This illumination will be from November 10th to February 19th. This illuminations was made with two million LED lights. This year’s theme is “Love Italy” to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Japan-Italian relations. It is supposed to feel like Venice and Pisa. There is the friendly witch Befana, she delivers treats to all of the good children during in the holidays.

#2. Autumn Evening Illumination at Rikugien Gardens
The illumination at the Rikugien Gardens is easily accessible from Komagome Station. This illumination will be from November 19th to December 7th. The gardens were built by a feudal lord during the Edo period, it was designed to reflect a famous scene from waka poems. The Tsukiyama-Sensui style garden has been a national scenic beauty spot since 1953. This is and illumination with autumn leaves. Usually the garden close at 5pm but during the event the gardens are open until 9pm.

#3. Roppongi Hills Artelligent Christmas 2016
Roppongi Hills is going to be covered in lights and there is going to be a Christmas tree and garden. This illumination will be from November 14th to December 25th.The large illumination is going to be along Keyakizaka, it is the street that runs down a gentle slope on the Azabu side of the Hills. There are about 1.2 million LED lights and the theme is “Snow and Blue” then changes to “Candle and Red”. The lights are on from 5pm to 11pm everyday.

#4. Ebisu Garden Place 2016
The Ebisu Garden’s Baccarat Eternal Lights illumination goes hard, they go all out. The days for this illumination are November 5th to January 9th. The front area is mainly covered in fairy lights, illuminated bells, chandeliers, and anything else that can make it extra shiny. The beer hall provides something else to do after walking through all of the lights.

#5. Omotesando Hills Christmas 2016
Omotesando is filled with fancy shops and restaurants, so during winter one more thing to add is the illumination. The illumination will from December 1st to the 25th. There will be 30,000 lights that change colors, walking up and down both sides of the streets and occasionally going into stores is the highlight.

#6. Yomiuri Land Jewellumination 2016-17
Yomiuri Land is an amusement park about an hour away from Shinjuku on the Odakyu Line. This illumination will be from October 14th to February 19th. The theme for this year’s illumination is “Jewellumination”, it was designed by Motoko Ishii, a famous Japanese light designer. The will be extremely shiny because the illumination is made with 4 million LED lights. Late night admission starts at 4pm, 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children.

#7. Marunouchi/Ginza 2016-17
The Marunouchi and Ginza illumination is considered to be more of a classy illumination. This illumination will be from November 10th to February 19th. Lights line cobblestone streets, 200 roadside trees, and sculptures. This is a pretty close comparison to European-style Christmas lights. Lights that use 65% less power are going to be used so it can be called an “eco-illumination”. Over by the Chuo Dori, it has an even more Christmas-y feel with th Mikimoto Christmas tree. The lights are on from 5pm until 11pm.

#8. Tokyo Skytree Dream Christmas 2016

The Skytree is going to be totally decorated for Christmas, it will be surrounded by a Chirstmas Market. The dates for this illumination is TBA. The market will be selling things like German-made ornaments, beer, sausage, and things alike.

#9. Midtown Christmas 2016
The illumination at Tokyo Midtown is probably one of the most popular in Tokyo. The illumination is from November 15th to December 25th, it is recommended to go before Christmas because there are always so many people there. There is going to be over 280,000 lights and the new “starry sky illumination” technology. The main theme is “a journey through the cosmos” using controlled LED light. Christmas Eve is probably the busiest day, there are hundreds of couples carrying around champagne trying not to bump into each other.

#10. Caretta Shiodome
Caretta Shiodome is another popular illumination that lasts until mid-February. This illumination will be from November 17th to February 14th. Since this illumination last until February, it might not be super pack on Christmas eve. There is going to be 250,000 LED light accompanied by music. The music plays every 20 minutes. The illumination starts at 5pm and goes till 11pm. Shiodome is closed January 1 and 2, 2017.

#11. Art Rink at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse
At the Art Rink at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, come and enjoy the illuminated rink while skating around. This is very popular attraction among families and couples, the illuminations started in 2005.

#12. Tokyo German Village Winter Illumination 2016-2017
The Tokyo German Village Winter Illumination is one of the biggest illumination events in Kanto area. There is an illuminated tunnel and every year the theme different is different. Using 250,000 LED lights, there is various animals and characters that children will love. This is located at Tokyo’s German Village.

#13. Sagamiko Illumillion 2016
At the Sagamiko Illumination the Splash Swan is a light show using LED lights and water timed to music. It is so unbelievable that you could loose track of time. There are many different themed areas, so be prepared to walk around.

The Ashikaga Flower Park Flower Fantasy is one of the three best illuminations in the Kanto area. This garden is decorated with over 350,000 LED lights, it is breathtakingly beautiful. This is a popular spot among girls, couples, and families.

#15. Haruna Lake Illumination Festival
The Haruna Lake Illumination Festival is famous for the illuminated tunnel. There are other illuminated shapes such as a heart, a pyramid, and an underwater tree. This illuminated has changed since last year, so it is a definite must see.
