#1. Odori Park

Odori Park

Odori Park is 7.8-hectare park located in the center of Sapporo. Some major events in Sapporo such as the Lilac Festival, the Yosakoi Soran Festival and the Snow Festival are held at this park. Many people come to enjoy the festivals and relax when there is no event. Most of the time grilled corn is sold at street stalls in the park, it is a great summer snack.

#2. Sapporo Beer Museum

Sapporo Beer Museum is the only beer museum in Japan. The beautiful museum building was built under the instruction of engineers from foreign countries in 1890. You can taste freshly brewed beer with Mongolian mutton barbecue called Genghis Khan at the restaurant next to the museum.

Shiroi Koibito is a representative sweet souvenir from Hokkaido, made of white chocolate in between two cookies. Shiroi Koibito Park is the place where you can see antique toys, the rose garden, and the illumination plus buy Shiroi Koibito and other confectioneries made by Ishiya Seika. There is also the experience of making sweets, having coffee, tea and sweets.

About 60 stores are located at the market. They sell fresh seafood including crabs, vegetables and fruits at a reasonable price. You can enjoy communicating and dealing with workers at the market when you buy something. There is many items to see and buy at the market.

Jozankei

Jozankei, the area to the south of Sapporo is famous for the beautiful onsen resorts. It is a nice place for one-day trips to Sapporo. They have foot baths for free, so you can relax after walking around the area and sightseeing.

#6. North Safari Sapporo

The North Safari Sapporo is a unique zoo, which is really different from other zoos. There are only a few places where you can see rare animals and touch cute animals compared to other zoos. However, the most recommended area at the zoo is the dangerous animal zone where you can see dangerous animals, but also eat at the restaurant.

Maruyama Zoo has been loved by Sapporo residents since 1951 when it opened. Daily event are scheduled and they amuse visitors. If you have a chance, it is recommended to join an event to observe nocturnal animals’ active behavior at night, which is available during summer.

Sapporo Snow Festival

The Sapporo Snow Festival is held at three sites; Odori Park, Satoland and Susukino in February. You will be surprised by huge snow statues and sculptures of famous people and buildings. There are also snow and ice slides that small children can play on. All of these sculptures are beautifully lit up at night. In addition some events and projection mapping are presented to entertain visitors.

#9. Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill

Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill

Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill is located in front of the Sapporo Dome. From the top of the hill, you can see whole city of Sapporo. There is a statue of Dr. Clark raising his right arm pointing to the right. Dr. Clark is an American educator who became the vice president of Sapporo Agricultural College in 1876 and is known for the phrase “Boys, be ambitious”. With a great view, you can enjoy delicious Mongolian mutton barbecue called Genghis Khan at the nearby restaurant.
