Each year in front of the Haruna Park Visitor Center, there is the Lake Haruna Illumination Fiesta during the winter. Lake Haruna is the second highest lake in Japan with an elevation of 1,084 meters. This means the air is very clear and you will be able to see the illumination very clearly. This year, the illumination will be held from Friday December 9, 2016 to Monday December 26, 2016. The light-up times are from 5 PM to 10 PM. This is a free event, so this is great for anyone.
One of the must see spots is the illuminated tunnel made with many LED lights. Every year this has been the most popular spot at the Lake Haruna Illumination Fiesta. The tunnel is over one hundred meters long and all of the lights create a beautiful scenery. There is also a pyramid, an underwater Christmas tree, and a heart-shaped illumination at the bridge in this area. On the very first day of the illumination, the staff chooses the person to press the light-up button. So if you are lucky enough, you might be the one controlling the lights!
Every day, there is a laser light show. Starting at 5:30 PM, a short show is held to entertain more to the visitors. The light show reflects of the water from the lake. This is very exciting, because it is at the beginning of the show. After the countdown, all of the lights are turned on and the area immediately changes to a different, never seen before view.
Collaboration with Fireworks
On certain days, you can see a beautiful collaboration of thr illumination and fireworks. On 9th, 12th, 15th, 19th, 22nd, and 26th of December 2106, a five minute firework show will be held. On December 9th, it starts at 5:30 pm, and on the other days, it starts at 8:30 pm. At one firework show, over 200 fireworks are launched from the lake’s surface. It is only held once a day on certain days, so don’t miss it!
Using the Cable Cars
Another way to enjoying the illumination at the Lake Haruna is to ride on the cable cars. By riding on the cable cars, you can enjoy the illumination from the top of the mountain. A collaboration of the light and the reflection from the lake creates an even more fantastic view. To ride the cable cars, it is 800 yen for adults and 400 yen for kids. The price is for round-trip. Depending on the weather, the cable cars may be out of service, so please check beforehand if you plan to use them. They are in service from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
