Lake Yamanaka

This lake is the largest and second most developed lake among the Fuji Five Lakes. It is also the third highest lake by altitude in Japan. Lake Yamanaka is a perfect summer resort destination due to it’s high altitude. The less developed northern shores offer alluring views of Mt. Fuji. Panorama Dai, an observation point for capturing Mt. Fuji with Lake Yamanaka in a same frame. This lake is also famous among sports enthusiasts for the many water sports such as wind surfing, boating, fishing and water skiing that can be enjoyed here. Beni Fuji no Yu and Ishikawa no Yu are the two well know hot spring baths in this area. Hana no Miyoko is a park located near Lake Yamanaka that is roughly 1,000 meters above sea level, famous for its blooming flowers.

Lake Sai

Lake Sai is comparatively less developed than the others. It is a quiet lake surrounded by hills and mountains. A great view of Mt. Fuji can be captured from the western end of the lake. It is a great destination for outdoor activities with its many hiking trails and nearby Aokigahara Jukai, the wide spread forest located south of the lake. Aokigahara Jukai is a very infamous forest for many reasons, one of them being that it is very easy to get lost, adding a mysterious aspect to the surrounding area.

Lake Shoji

Lake Shoji is the smallest among the Fuji Five Lakes and it is situated between Lake Motosu and Lake Sai. This area it is very serene and there is far less tourism than the others. A great view of Mt. Fuji can be seen from Eboshi Dake Panorama Platform which is located on southwest side of the lake. There are a few hotels around the lake with magnificent views as well as many outdoor activities such as camping and hiking that you can participate in.

Lake Motosu

Lake Motosu is the deepest among the Fuji Five Lakes, its famous for the clear waters. It is also the only lake among the Fuji Five Lakes that does not freeze during the winter. The view of Mt. Fuji from Lake Motosu appears on the reverse side of the 1000 yen bill! This area around the lake is not very developed but outdoor activities like boating and fishing can still be enjoyed here.
