When people think of Japan, the first thing that comes to mind might be Tokyo. Surprisingly there are many green spaces, national gardens, and parks around the country. Hitachi Seaside Park in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki prefecture is an amazing 470 acre park. One of the main attractions to the area are the plentiful flower gardens and at Hitachi Seaside Park there are over a hundred different varieties to view.
One extremely and possibly most popular flower for viewing at Hitachi Seaside Park are the baby blue-eyes flowers. There are over four million of these beautiful, blue flowers here and they bloom from late April to mid May, filling the surrounding hillside with a blanket of sky blue.
Miharashi hill, which overlooks much of the expansive flower fields is one of the more popular spots to visit during the baby blue-eyes blooming season because the hill seemingly blends into the sky for an amazing and surreal view.
Although the Nemophila flowers are native to the North America they have been brought to Japan, creating an almost ten acres of field that match the blue skies overhead.
Like a wave of dark red to pink the Kochias fill the area during the end of summer into fall, creating a strangely beautiful crimson landscape.
From late-September to mid-October, Kochias (summer cypress) turns the Miharashi hills from green to dark red. Cosmoses cover the hillside, the flowers are white, pink, and red.
Another popular attraction for people visiting the park are the tulips which spread across the Tamago no Mori flower garden section of the park. There are also other attractions in the area such as an air trampoline and art pieces for you to visit.
The best time to see the tulips at Hitachi Seaside Park is from mid to late April. The tulips create an extremely colorful view in the park because there are over 200 varieties and around 280,000 individual plants that grow here every year.
Additionally, there are over one million daffodils or Narcissus flowers blooming from late-March to mid-April at Hitachi Seaside Park. The sweet scent from these beautiful flowers fill the air every spring.
Because the blooming of around 600 different species of Narcissus lines up at the end of their season with the beginning of the season for the baby blue-eyes, April is a great time to visit the park!
Along with the natural attractions of the park, there are also many rides and events for people to check out.
