Located in Shizuoka, Fuji Kachoen Garden Park is home to an amazing garden and a bird sanctuary. This park has a little bit of something for everyone so it could be a great spot for a family trip in Japan.
Although there a many animals and flower parks in Japan, Fuji Kachoen Garden Park is very well known for its owls and colorful flowers. If you are able to visit be sure to see the large flower green house as it is absolutely enchanting.
Amazingly, within the flower gardens there are over 800 different varieties to see. Because there are so many different species here that bloom during different times of the year, you will be in awe at the variety of colors. You should have your camera ready because the flowers here line the floor and ceiling of the building.
Because we visited Fuji Kachoen Garden Park towards the end of the year, there were many traditional Japanese decorations to see. Many of the decorations represent good health, fortune, and good luck. There were a lot of good vibes going in to the new year.
Within the greenhouse, there is a rest area for you to grab a snack or drink. The eating area nearby is surrounded by so many flowers that it seems like a fantasy garden from a childrens book. This is a great spot to relax and enjoy the view.
Near the greenhouse, there is an extremely popular owl sanctuary. There are many different species of owls for you to see and play with here, some of which are only available for viewing at Fuji Kachoen Garden Park. If you are an owl fan, be sure to come and see them here.
One of the most surprising things is that within the compartment exhibition room, the visitors and the owls were only separated by a glass window. Being so close to the owls during their daily activity was surprising.
Visitors can take an extremely close look at the owls, you are so close to them sometimes that you can see their every move. Sometimes the owls will even look right at you!
Everyday at a specific time, the garden area will provide close contact opportunities and performances with the owls, be sure not to miss the opportunity to play with the owls when you visit.

This area is for the cute cape penguins, look at them go!
In addition to the lovely owls, the park also has parrots, mice, rabbits, penguins and other small animals for you to see. Each animal is located very close to the tourists so it provides a unique viewing experience.
There is a room where you can directly feed the birds. A cup of bird feed costs 100 yen and the birds will come right over and eat it out of your hand!
There are many bird and flower related souvenirs to purchase if you are looking for a gift. You are able to buy seeds from different flowers, potted plants, owl plushies, and much more.
Fuji Kachoen Garden Park is not yet a super popular tourist spot because transportation can be a little inconvenient. If you are visiting Fuji Five Lakes then you should definitely add this to your list as well. There are lovely animals and flowers waiting for you.
