Ikebukuro is known for the Sunshine City Aquarium, Namja Town, and Animate. With many popular spots comes many restaurants, we went to find some unusual ramen in Ikebukuro. This ramen is not too well-known, its definitely worth trying. This normal looking restaurant serves something called Lemon Ramen; what could it taste it?
Exit from the west side of Ikebukuro Station to find the ramen restaurant “Kotobuki”. This Japanese style shop has about 11 counter seats. Since we visited on a weekday, there weren’t too many people lined up.
After walking in, you need to buy a meal ticket. There is an English menu available for those who do not read Japanese. We came for the Lemon Ramen, but they also have many other interesting dishes. The Lemon Ramen costs 880 yen. This shops allows their guests to determined the stiffness of the noodles and the richness of the broth. The ramen will be a little different, from person to person.
After waiting a little bit, here it is, Lemon Ramen. The surface of the ramen is topped with lemon slices, underneath there is pork, green onions, and kikurage mushrooms. Even though the ramen is covered with lemon slices, the chicken broth flavor was surprisingly strong. The after taste was refreshing with a hint of lemon juice. First looking the Lemon Ramen, you might be worried about the flavor but it was normal and delicious.
It’s up to you whether or not to eat the lemon slices that topped the ramen. Just having the lemon juice in the ramen is enough for some people.
At first, the ramen might look funky but its actually very delicious. The lemon juice matches well with the chicken broth. If you are ever in Ikebukuro, how about trying Lemon Ramen from Kotobuki? There are many interesting spots in Ikebukuro so be sure to visit Kotobuki for some wacky ramen.
