Sumida River Fireworks Festival 2018

2018 Sumida Fireworks Festival

The Sumida River Fireworks Festival is held on the banks of the Sumida River in Asakusa and is the most attended fireworks event in Tokyo every year! This year’s Sumida River Fireworks Festival will be the 41st edition and is expected to fire off 20,000 different types of fireworks! There will be many street food vendors around the area where visitors can taste authentic dishes while admiring the Sky Tower as a backdrop.

The 2018 Katsushika Fireworks Festival will be the 52nd edition and will be held at the Shibamata Baseball Grounds near Edogawa River. This year around 13,000 fireworks will be cast and since there are many food stalls in the park, it is recommended to bring a cushion to sit on while you enjoy the delicious variety of foods.

Tamagawa Fireworks Festival 2018

The Tamagawa Fireworks Festival will turn 40 this year and as usual, it is held at the Tama River embankment near Futakotamagawa station. The fireworks along the riverside of Tamagawa make for a spectacular scene. This year will there will be about 12,000 fireworks and since the event date is mid-October, the crowds will not be as numerous as other Tokyo Fireworks Festivals. It is highly recommended that you include this Tokyo Fireworks Festival to your list.

There is also a smaller number of visitors which makes this Tokyo Fireworks Festival quite tame compared to others and much more relaxed and enjoyable from the nearby riverfront.

We know that this festival is in the Nagano prefecture but it worth mentioning as it is the biggest in Japan with 40,000 fireworks set to light up the sky! If you are departing from Shinjuku, you can take the Chuo Express Line for about 2 hours and get off at Kami-Suwa Station.

The Tachikawa Showa Kinen Park is famous for its cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in the fall but the summer fireworks festival is also worth seeing!This year they are expected to shoot off 6,000 fireworks which is 1,000 more than last year! It is highly recommended to take a stroll through the park in the daytime while waiting for the fireworks at night.
