When in Tokyo, Kichijoji is one spot that can’t be missed. Around Kichijoji Station, shop the local stores, visit Inokashira Park, and eat gourmet food. Satou, a speicalty shop selling Matsusaka beef makes some of the meatiest and juiciest croquettes. The minced meat croquettes are so popular that there is always a line around the shop.
In Japan, if people are lined up in front of a small shop, you know the food is good. Croquettes from Satou are so popular, people wait in line for this delicious treat. If you are too late, they might be sold out.
The most popular item from Satou is the Matsusaka beef croquette, in Japanese you would say “matsuzaka gyu menchi korokke”. Satou is always busy making more and more for the never ending crowd. All of the other food from Satou looks delicious too.
One minced meat croquette from Satou cost 220 yen, if you buy five or more it costs 180 yen for one.
The croquette is very juicy but not greasy, the outside is crunchy and flavor of the meat explodes in your mouth. It is a very simple minced meat croquette, Matsuzaka beef and onions, this simpleness is addicting. When fresh, they can be very hot so be careful not to get burnt by the juicy meat.
Sometimes, to get this delicious item you have to wait in line for 20 minutes or more. I would recommend avoiding the weekend and lunch time.
If you weren’t able to buy the minced meat croquette, Satou sells other delicious foods such as pork and tonkatsu. Visit the table near the register before leaving.
