Japan is no stranger to the typical buffets found around the world and in Tokyo you’ll find that there is everything from all-you-can-eat crab and beef to ice-cream. But, did you know that there is an all you can eat Ramen shop in Asakusa? Who wouldn’t want to gorge themselves on one of Japan’s most popular dishes. At Ramen Buffet Buta, for a half hour, you can choose from a wide array of toppings and noodle styles until you’ve gotten your fill.
Ramen Buffet Buta, All You Can Eat Ramen Restaurant
Ramen Buffet Buta is located in the beautiful Asakusa, inside Tokyo’s Taito ward. Ramen Buffet Buta is as near to the station as it gets and with its large, pink pig signage you’ll be able to spot this restaurant immediately even if you can’t already smell the Ramen.
For only 980 yen you’ll have a half hour to enjoy as much noodles, soup, snacks and tea as you’d like. In addition to all of the goodies you get for this killer price, they also have unlimited rice and toppings for the Ramen. If you are a DIY sort of person, you’ll love this Ramen spot as it allows you for unlimited creative food freedom. Outside of the shop are menus for all of the items that Buta offers and once you are inside the friendly staff will explain how you purchase your meal, choose your ingredients and the softness of your noodles. Once you are all set, get ready to eat!
Ramen Buffet Buta is a little bit small, with only 16 seats at the bar, probably because you only have 30 minutes to eat your meal. The place wasn’t too busy when we arrived so we were able to get a seat. While waiting for your meal you can choose from a variety of beverages and relax until your food is ready.
On the left hand side of the entrance is the self service bar where you are able to grab your assortment of ingredients for the Ramen. You can tell what they are due to their little name tags on the front of each bin. There is pork, bamboo, seaweed, onions, ginger, eggs and many other options to choose from. You can’t find this kind of variety anywhere else in the city. There are also a few sauces to throw on your Ramen as well, from sesame oil to soy sauce. You are also able to get rice along with your meal if you wish.
Once you select your ingredients and sit down at the bar area, you choose your desired Ramen hardness. Very hard, hard, ordinary and soft. Once everything is all set, the staff will charge you the fee and you can get your grub on!
You can see from the photo that this isn’t your average serving of Ramen, but don’t worry because you can get as many refills as you want in the 30 minute span.
If you are creative you can make practically any type of Ramen your taste buds desire here. You can create something crazy as well if you’d like, such as my Ramen bowl in the photo!
Be playful when creating your bowl and make sure you pick some great ingredients. The best part about Ramen Buffet Buta is that there are no worries about not liking your bowl, because well, you did choose the ingredients. Let’s hope you made the right choice.
Near the table, the signage states that noodles, ingredients and rice are unlimited for your enjoyment. In addition, make sure you let the staff know your desired hardness each time you order.
After you get done gulping down your first bowl, make sure you go grab some ingredients for your next bowl too. I chose some Tomato chili seafood sauce and some stuff I wasn’t too into but it wasn’t too bad. If you are a tofu fan I suggest the mabo-tofu they have, it’s amazing. This cost effective meal will leave you feeling great after a bowl, or two, or three. With a DIY feel and surprising proximity to the great temples of Asakusa, you shouldn’t miss out on Ramen Buffet Buta. Every time you eat here you’ll have a new experience.
